Quodvultdeus

Bishop of Carthage in North Africa, exiled by the Arian Genseric King of the Vandals, after the capture of the city in 439. He reposed in Naples in Italy.

St Victor of Vita in his History of Vandal Persecution wrote of Quodvultdeus and his exile thus: “But then he [Gaiseric] ordered that the bishop of the aforementioned city, that is, Carthage, a person well known to God and man, whose name was Quodvultdeus, and a great throng of the clergy, were to be placed naked on dangerous ships. Having been despoiled, they were to be driven away. In his merciful goodness the Lord graciously brought them to Naples, a town in Campania, after a safe passage.”
